Haunted Ellicott

Ellicott is rumored to have numerous haunted buildings. The following tales are simply legends, and though all the facts are verified with public record, it is advised against that you visit these places unless you're doing it with the aid of the Haunted Ellicott Tours Society.

A favorite legend among residents and paranormal buffs alike involves the affluent Green Family, a family that couldn't pack up and travel west, and the men had to join the mill workforce.

The men in this family had always been wealthy farmers, and were a very proud bunch. Not one of them enjoyed their somewhat tedious job at the mill and, occasionally, the young men would rough house to entertain themselves. One time this ended in a terrible accident with the machinery, leading to the death of the youngest, and supposedly most handsome, member of the Green family.

The father, Alfred Green, did not deal well with the loss of his pride, his wealth, and his most cherished son. Long unable to work because of old age, Alfred spent much of his time rambling around Ellicott, going mad and mumbling threats under his breath.

Approximately eight months after the death of Thomas Green, Alfred finally snapped. In the late hours of the night, neighbors reported hearing repeated shots from a shotgun and a tumult of angry shouting. A fire was noticed by the locals coming from the rear of the house and was quickly extinguished, later determined to be intentional.

The bodies of Mrs. Green as well as her two remaining sons and three daughters were found throughout the house. Mr Green was never found or seen again.

Legend says that the ghosts of the killed wife and children haunt the home, going about such day-to-day business as cleaning up their once-exquisite home, cooking, and playing with the children.

Another local myth is that the spirit of the son who lost his life at the mill still wanders about, looking for his lost arm.
